Boutique Hotels in Sofia: 11 Small Hotels I'd Book

My 11 favourite small hotels in Sofia, what makes each one boutique, and what a night cost when I checked.

Sofia does small hotels well. Think a 1922 house with bare brick walls, nine rooms each dressed after a Bulgarian artist, or 31 rooms on Vitosha Boulevard with a different flower in every one. These are the 11 boutique hotels I'd book for a weekend in Sofia, what makes each one boutique, who it suits and what a night cost when I checked.

What counts as a boutique hotel in Sofia

I call a Sofia hotel boutique when it's small and built around one idea: an old building, an artist or a designer's theme. The 11 on my list run from nine rooms at Oborishte 63 to 50 at Adella. Among the best hotels in Sofia, the big five-stars work on another scale: the Grand Hotel Millennium on Vitosha Boulevard has 400 rooms over 30 storeys.

Where Sofia's boutique hotels are

Most of my 11 sit in three central pockets, each within walking distance of the cathedral, and any of them makes a good first-weekend base among the areas to stay in Sofia.

Vitosha Boulevard is the main street, 2.7 km of shops and cafe terraces from St Nedelya Church down to South Park, with the mountain at the far end. Les Fleurs is on the boulevard itself, and Sentro is a few steps off it on Solunska Street.

Around Serdika, three metro lines meet, the airport train stops and the Roman streets of ancient Serdica lie open around the station. Design Hotel 36, R34 and AMAR are all a short walk from here, which makes this the easiest place to arrive with a suitcase.

Oborishte is the quiet one: the residential district behind Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, with tree-lined streets, Doctor's Garden and some of my favourite cafes in Sofia. Most of it is 10 to 15 minutes on foot from the cathedral, and Oborishte 63 is on Oborishte Street itself.

The boutique hotels I'd book for a couple

Les Fleurs Boutique Hotel

Double room at Les Fleurs Boutique Hotel with strings of blue and green glass leaves and a blue mosaic bathroom
Photo: Google Maps

Les Fleurs is my favourite boutique hotel in Sofia. It has 31 rooms on Vitosha Boulevard, and the designer Francesco Lucchese planned the place around flowers: every room has its own layout and its own flower motif, so no two rooms look the same. You step out of the front door onto the city's main street.

I'd book it for an anniversary or a first trip as a couple. The boulevard terraces stay busy into the evening, so ask for a room at the back if you sleep lightly.

Sentro Boutique Hotel

Photo: Google Maps

Sentro had the highest guest score of any hotel I looked at in Sofia, 9.6 from 1,871 reviews on Booking. It's on Solunska Street, a few steps from Vitosha Boulevard, and NDK metro, the stop for the National Palace of Culture, is about half a kilometre away. There's a garden, and some rooms look out at the mountain.

A room was from about €123 a night, €37 under the city's five-star average, which is why it's my pick for a couple on a sensible budget. Ask for a mountain-view room when you book.

Oborishte 63, The Art Boutique Hotel

Photo: Google Maps

Oborishte 63 is the smallest hotel on my list and the one I'd book for a big occasion. It has nine suites and rooms at 63 Oborishte Street, and each one takes its colours, art, textures and furniture from a different Bulgarian visual artist. The names give you the flavour: Horo (the Bulgarian folk dance), Wild Pears, Fairytale, The Thread, and The Atelier, a penthouse suite at the top.

Downstairs, the So63 lobby bar serves drinks all day and StudiO63 does brunch and dinner, with a terrace for warm evenings. Nine rooms means nine bookings a night, so I'd reserve it before the flights.

Design hotels in Sofia

Design Hotel 36

Photo: Google Maps

Design Hotel 36 is the one I'd book for the building. It's a small hotel in a 1922 house at 36 Alexander Stamboliyski Boulevard, refurbished in 2017 with a curving staircase, caged industrial lamps and walls of bare red brick against white plaster. Serdika metro is about three blocks east, and there's a terrace for a morning coffee.

Guests scored it 8.8 from 954 reviews on Booking. Skip it if you want a spa, because the money here goes on the building.

R34 Boutique Hotel

R34 is a small, industrial-style hotel with 11 rooms. Its suite sleeps six, so it's the one I suggest when a group of friends wants to stay together without booking three rooms.

It's close to the National Archaeological Museum, one of the best museums in Sofia, which fills a former mosque behind the Presidency and charges €6 a ticket.

Junó Hotel Sofia

Photo: Google Maps

Junó is a member of Design Hotels, with 34 rooms and one suite at 40 Ivan Denkoglu Street in the centre. Rooms run from 30 to 55 m², and the best sit on the top two floors: the Sunkissed rooms on the 5th, and The Loft (105 m²) and The Penthouse (160 m²) on the 6th, all with floor-to-ceiling windows and big terraces.

The Penthouse sleeps five, and some rooms connect through a full-size door, which makes Junó my boutique pick for a family. It also runs a Sunday brunch, handy for the last morning before a flight.

Cheap boutique hotels in Sofia

AMAR Design Hotel by HMG

Velvet sofa and armchair, a polished stone floor and gold slatted panels in the lobby of AMAR Design Hotel
Photo: Google Maps

AMAR Design Hotel was the cheapest well-rated boutique hotel I found, from about €66 a night with a 9.0 score from more than 3,300 reviews. It's 600 metres from Banya Bashi Mosque, so Serdika metro and the hot mineral water taps beside the mosque are a short walk, and there's a restaurant in the hotel.

At €66 it came in under the city's average 3-star night of about €73. I'd book it for a first weekend on a budget and put the difference towards a good dinner.

Agora Boutique Hotel

Agora Boutique Hotel is 700 metres from the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, and the rooms have city views. Guests scored it 9.0 from 1,684 reviews, and it was from about €73 a night.

It's my pick for a couple who want a boutique room at a 3-star price.

Boutique apartments for a longer stay

For three nights or more I'd rather have a sofa and room to spread out, and two boutique apartment hotels do that well. DOT Sofia sits in the Women's Market district, the streets around Zhenski Pazar between the centre and the Central Railway Station, where the morning stalls sell cheap fruit and vegetables.

DOT Sofia

Photo: Google Maps

DOT Sofia has ten design apartments and one penthouse at Bratya Miladinovi 46, with contemporary Bulgarian art on the walls, its own restaurant, KOMAT, and parking. The penthouse has a private rooftop terrace, my pick for a birthday.

The market streets are plainer than Oborishte, and in return you're a short walk from Serdika and Lavov Most metro, Banya Bashi and the station for an early train to Plovdiv.

VIKO Boutique Apart Hotel

Photo: Google Maps

VIKO Boutique Apart Hotel has 23 apartments in the centre. Guests scored it 9.1 from 439 reviews, and it was from about €146 a night, the highest price I saw for any hotel on this list.

That money buys an apartment, so it suits a family or two couples who want more space than a hotel room gives.

A boutique hotel with free parking

Adella Boutique Hotel

Photo: Google Maps

Adella is the boutique hotel I send friends to when they arrive with a hire car. It has free secured parking and an Italian restaurant, Adella Ristorante, and guests scored it 9.5 from 3,169 reviews. A room was from about €128 a night.

It opened in 2018 at Tintyava 15G in Dianabad, a residential district outside the centre, and added 13 rooms and suites in 2024 to reach 50. That makes it the largest hotel on my list, and its Design Suites have a rotating TV that divides the living and sleeping areas. Without a car I'd stay central, because the cathedral and the Roman ruins are a metro or taxi ride from Dianabad.

Which boutique hotel in Sofia suits your trip

  • A couple's weekend: Les Fleurs for life on the boulevard, or Oborishte 63 for an art-filled suite on a quieter street.
  • A couple on a budget: Sentro at about €123, or Agora at about €73.
  • A first weekend: Design Hotel 36 or AMAR, both a short walk from Serdika, where the airport metro stops.
  • A family or a group of friends: Junó's Penthouse sleeps five, R34's suite sleeps six, and DOT and VIKO have apartments.
  • A road trip: Adella, for the free secured parking.

Skip a boutique hotel if a pool matters. For a swim I'd book the Grand Hotel Millennium or the Hyatt Regency, two of the luxury hotels in Sofia with a pool and a spa.

What a boutique hotel in Sofia costs

These are the five boutique hotels I saw live prices for on 2 November 2026, for two adults and one night, set against Booking's Sofia averages for the same day. Prices are in euros, converted from Booking's pounds at £1 = €1.19983.

HotelFrom, per nightAgainst the city average
AMAR Design Hotelabout €66€7 under a 3-star (€73)
Agora Boutique Hotelabout €73The same as a 3-star
Sentro Boutique Hotelabout €123€22 over a 4-star (€101)
Adella Boutique Hotelabout €128€27 over a 4-star
VIKO Boutique Apart Hotelabout €146€14 under a five-star (€160)

Two of the best-rated boutique hotels cost no more than a 3-star, and none of the five reached the five-star average. In a Sofia weekend budget the room is the biggest cost by far: two nights at Sentro come to about €246, and a metro ride is €0.80.

Getting to your boutique hotel from the airport

The M4 metro runs from Terminal 2 to Serdika in about 20 minutes, and a single costs €0.80 with a contactless tap at the barrier. A one-day card is €2 on the official metro fares list. Design Hotel 36, R34, AMAR and DOT are a short walk from Serdika. For Sentro, change at Serdika to M2 and get off at NDK.

Bus 84 does the airport to the city centre run too, for the same €0.80 as the metro, but it takes 35 to 45 minutes. The last train leaves the airport at 11.38pm on weekdays, and after that I'd take a metered taxi in Sofia from the official desk in arrivals: about €13 to €14 to the centre on the day tariff, a little more after 10pm.

Key takeaways

  • Les Fleurs, 31 flower-themed rooms on Vitosha Boulevard, is my favourite boutique hotel in Sofia.
  • Sentro scored 9.6 and was from about €123, my pick for a couple on a sensible budget.
  • On a budget, AMAR at about €66 and Agora at about €73 both scored 9.0 with Booking guests.
  • Oborishte 63, nine rooms each after a Bulgarian artist, is the one for a big occasion.
  • Book Adella if you're driving, for its free secured parking, and stay central if you're not.
